Frank Leidenberger served as Chief Executive Officer until October 2025 and had been a member of the Executive Board of BWI GmbH since 2018.
He joined the German Armed Forces in 1977 and studied economics and organizational sciences at the University of the German Armed Forces in Munich. He completed his General Staff training at the Bundeswehr Command and Staff College from 1990 to 1992 and subsequently held a variety of posts. Among other roles, he served as commander of Armored Reconnaissance Battalion 13; during this time, he was deployed as part of SFOR and commanded the armored task force in Sarajevo.
As G3 of the Eurocorps in Strasbourg, he was deployed to Kabul as part of ISAF before becoming Chief of Staff of the Special Operations Division. In 2008, upon his appointment as Brigadier General, he assumed command of the 31st Airborne Brigade in Oldenburg.
In this capacity, he served in Afghanistan again in 2009–2010 as commander of the German contingent and Regional Commander North. From 2012 to 2015, as head of the Bundeswehr Planning Office, he was responsible for the capability development of the armed forces.
From June 2015 to July 2016, he served again in Afghanistan as a Lieutenant General, serving as Chief of Staff of the ISAF follow-on mission Resolute Support. Subsequently, he served until 2018 as Commander of German Contributions to the Multinational Corps/Military Basic Organization within the Army Command.
