Harry Mergel has been Lord Mayor of his home town of Heilbronn since 2014 and was elected to his second term of office in 2022 with 81.5 percent of the vote. Before that, he was Mayor for Education and Culture, Social Affairs, Citizen Services, Safety and Order and Health in Heilbronn for nine years. He has been involved in local politics since 1989, when he was first elected to Heilbronn's municipal council.
As Lord Mayor, he is Chairman of the Municipal Council and Head of Administration. He also holds numerous other positions, including Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Stadtsiedlung Heilbronn (SHN), Heilbronn Marketing (HMG), SLK-Kliniken Heilbronn and Südwestdeutsche Salzwerke (SWS).
Harry Mergel is married and has two grown-up children.
