Major General Michael Traut is the Commander of German Space Command. He is a trained GCI Controller and served in numerous senior functions in German Air Force and Joint Support Service Headquarters as well as within German Ministry of Defence. He completed an operational tour in Afghanistan in the first half of 2007 and was in command of the German Air Force Officer School between 2016 and 2020. In 2021, he became Director of National Air Operations until 2023, simultaneously taking command of the emerging German Space Command. Major General Traut graduated from Bundeswehr Command and Staff College, Joint Services Command and Staff College and Royal College of Defence Studies.
