A new investment hype has taken hold in the world of robotics. What lies behind it, and what companies need to prepare for now.

Robots are suddenly everywhere. At technology conferences, humanoid machines are breakdancing; in China, they’re running half-marathons; and in German cities, autonomous vehicles are already delivering parcels. Why this matters: such spectacular pilot demonstrations make a big impression. However, the next generation of robots is not yet truly ready for production. Nevertheless, it’s worth taking a closer look. Because if the technology lives up to what these prospects promise, it could fundamentally change the way we live and work.
