Digital Euro: If Everything Is Digital – Why Not Our Money?
Prof. Dr. Wuermeling is a professor at ESMT Berlin and a lawyer at the law firm A&O Shearman in Frankfurt.
Until recently, Wuermeling was a member of the Executive Board of the Deutsche Bundesbank, where he was most recently responsible for banking supervision, controlling, accounting and organization, information technology, data, and statistics.
He was a member of the Supervisory Board of the ECB's Single Supervisory Mechanism, the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision, and the German Financial Stability Committee. Previous positions include Member of the European Parliament, State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology, member of the Executive Board of the German Insurance Association, and Chairman of the Board of the Sparda Banks Association. Prof. Dr. Wuermeling is a fully qualified lawyer, holds academic degrees from the University of Bayreuth and the European University Institute in Florence, and has taught as an honorary professor at the Universities of Bayreuth and Potsdam.
